Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No.311 of the 9th August, 1933, transmitting an enquiry from the Victoria League on behalf of a Chinese student, Mr. H.N. Chau, regarding the possibility of allowing him to sit for the Hong Kong solicitors' examination in England.
The matter has been referred to the
Chief Justice, who considers that it is not desirable
that a procedure should be adopted in Mr. Chau's case which would involve so wide a departure from the normal practice and would create a precedent which might be cited as an argument for the adoption of the like procedure in other cases. I should be glad if the Victoria League might be so informed.
I have the honour to be,.
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
Live
Governor, &c.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., .P.,
